New clean energy and innovation center boosts Paraguay

Innovation and sustainability gain strength in Paraguay

The Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Asunción (FIUNA) presented the ambitious project aimed at clean hydroelectric power generation, industrial development, and green mobility. The initiative features an investment of 9,500,000,000 guaranis, equivalent to about 1.5 million dollars, enabled by the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (Conacyt) through the Prociencia program and supported by the Fondo para la Excelência de la Educação y la Investigación (FEEI), with an execution deadline until 2030.

Structure and focus on new technologies

The central axis of the initiative is the creation of the Centro de Investigación en Tecnologías Hidroeléctricas y Energía Distribuida (CITHED), which will operate as a permanent platform for research, postgraduate studies, innovation, and technological transfer. The space will connect the university, the State, and the productive sector to boost the local market and attract new talents and opportunities.

• Three specialized laboratories: The center will work on mini and micro-hydroelectric generation, electric mobility focusing on charging systems, and green hydrogen for industrial applications.
• Highly qualified team: Around 30 people, including researchers, doctoral students, and international specialists, make up the project led by Dr. Raúl Gregor.
• Development of public policies: The goal is to train high-level human resources and generate concrete solutions with technology transfer to the productive sector.

The information regarding this technological advancement and investments in the Paraguayan energy sector was originally published by ABC Color.
