Paraguay to receive $12B artificial intelligence center

New technological center in Alto Paraná

Paraguay has been chosen to host an Artificial Intelligence (AI) data center in the Yguazú district, in the Alto Paraná department. The information was detailed by businessman Alejandro Zuccolillo during the Mesa con EVP program, reported the ABC Color newspaper. The project anticipates a contribution of approximately $12 billion over three years, being pointed out as the largest foreign direct investment in the history of the South American country.

According to the publication, the initiative seeks to integrate Paraguay into the global development of advanced technologies, aligning with international geopolitical strategies. The plan counts on the participation of financial institutions from the United States, such as the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), in addition to investment funds and partner companies from the technological sector.

Project stages and structure

• Total investment estimated at $12 billion distributed over a three-year period.
• The first phase consists of a proof of concept valued at $300 million to test infrastructure, connectivity, and legal security.
• The technical project involves partnerships with North American developers and external financing outside the local banking system.
• The anticipated energy for operation will be supplied by the Administración Nacional de Electricidad (ANDE), with an agreed tariff of $45 per MWh.

The schedule is divided into three phases. The initial stage will serve to verify the operation of customs, contracts, technical team, and connectivity. If the results are positive, the following phases aim to consolidate what is presented as the largest AI ecosystem in Latin America, generating added value for the national economy.
